Dan Ward
Dan Ward’s musical adventure began at a very early age. Born in the cultural oasis of Coventry his parents exposed Dan to an eclectic variety of music styles from the off. His mum’s love of reggae and soul music combined with his dad’s extensive record library exposed Dan to just about every type of music you could think of. Citing artists such as Marvin Gaye, Quincy Jones and Donald Bryd as major influences on his own music its easy to see.At the age of 7 he began to play the double bass… not an easy task for one so small but he stuck with it even when he’d rather be out playing football. This led to him touring Europe with a variety of orchestras and jazz bands, which provided Dan with a great insight into what life was going to be like on the road later in life. It also prompted him to study music throughout school and later at university.Dan’s first foray into the world of DJing came at the tender age of 17 when he started to DJ at a local club near where he was living in Essex.Playing anything from the Stone Roses to Snoop Dogg Dan became known for getting the dance floor moving. It was a couple of years later when Dan moved to Leeds to study for a degree in music technology that he began to take his DJing to another level. After playing at various bars and parties throughout the city he secured a dream job for any young music lover at legendary Leeds record shop ‘Playmusic’. This provided a great platform and gave Dan with the oppourtunity to play alongside a lot of the DJs he looked up to - such as Kenny Dope, Yousef, The Unabombers amongst many others. In late 2004 Dan was invited to become a resident at a new starting starting at the mint club in Leeds called Asylum. With a motto of “if its’s good music, play it” regardless of what genre, groove, or beat it came from, it was an environment Dan excelled in.Performing regularly alongside DJ’s such as Jazzy Jeff, Theo Parrish and Gilles Peterson still proves to be an invaluable experience. After being a fan of Nightmares On Wax for many years Dan hooked up with DJ EASE in 2005 when he was offered the chance to remix a tune for EASE’s new label WAX ON Records. Things went well and Dan was asked to produce an album for WAX ON. The album ‚Scrambled Negg’, due to drop later in 2008, will be released under the artist name NEGGHEAD and is a collection of soulful beats and funky grooves perfect for the summer months. Since 2006 Dan has also been touring round Europe DJing with Nightmares On Wax and the WAX ON Records night ‘Wax Da Jam’… and has also graced the WAX ON Ibiza party craze ‚Wax Da Beach’ in 07.With prestigeous remix work for the likes of Nightmares On Wax and other artist / projects in the pipeline, 2008 looks to be a promising year for the man who calls himself NEGGHEAD…www.myspace.com/negghead
